Holy Rosary School began in 1891 with a small group of religious who decided to make Tacoma their home. Those Benedictines knew that Catholic education was essential for the Pacific Northwest, and Holy Rosary School opened that year as the first Catholic Elementary School in Washington.
Here at Holy Rosary School, we are proud of this heritage. We are proud of the tradition of service, academics, spiritual growth and character development that began with Father Eversmann more than 110 years ago. As we look back over the years, the challenges we've faced together, it becomes obvious that we must plan to secure Holy Rosary School for the future.
The Development Office of Holy Rosary School exists to ensure this future; to keep a quality, Catholic education affordable to all who seek it. The cost of tuition doesn't cover the entire cost of educating our children. The development office exists, in part, to make up this difference.

What is Development?
Holy Rosary School's development efforts focus on educating and involving our community in the long-term success of the school. The office organizes the annual fund drive, SHARE Auction, endowment fund efforts, legacy gifts and grant projects. It also orchestrates all recruitment efforts, including public relations and marketing the school.
Support for our Annual Fund Drive, special events and our endowment fund is essential to the school's success. Your generosity means strong academic and spiritual programs, equitable teacher salaries, lower tuition and financial stability for Holy Rosary School.

Annual Fund Drive 2006-2007
This year's goal is to raise $52,500 to support Holy Rosary School. Money raised from this program goes directly into the school budget to keep tuition low move towards equitable teacher salaries. The fund drive also builds our endowment fund and helps fund capital improvement projects each year.
The Annual Fund Drive is easiest way to make a fully tax-deductible gift to Holy Rosary School. It supports not only the immediate needs of today, but helps build a solid foundation for the future. Please feel free to send your tax-deductible donation to:

The Holy Rosary Endowment Fund currently totals more than $130,000. All gifts in memory of a loved one are deposited into this fund, where they will "live forever."
Our endowment goal is $1 million. When the fund reaches that level, Holy Rosary School will be able to use a portion of the interest to provide scholarships and support the day to day operations of the school, thereby keeping tuition lower for everyone. An endowment fund of $1 million would provide at least $50,000 per year to the school.
The fund is currently managed by Christian Brothers Investment Services, and overseen by the Holy Rosary Finance Committee. For more information, contact the principal, Rudy Navarro at 253.272.7012.
Leaving a legacy is one of the most important ways you can support the quality Catholic Education offered at Holy Rosary School. Usually, this legacy begins with a well thought-out will.
No matter your age, economic status or health, you should have a will. If you die without one, the state decides what will happen to your assets, including appointing a guardian for your children. Wills are simple, inexpensive documents that can protect your best interests, and help you establish any legacy you wish to leave.
Within a will, you can give a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your assets, stock options or even real estate to the charity of your choice. This can be done by asking your attorney to add your charity into your will. To leave a legacy gift to Holy Rosary School or Parish, your will should contain the following language:
"I give to the Corporation of the Catholic Archbishop of Seattle, for the benefit of Holy Rosary School or Parish, located in Tacoma, Washington, ________ percent of my residuary estate (or specific dollar amount) to be used as the Pastor and the Parish Council may determine."
There are many other ways to make a planned gift to the school. For more information, please contact the school Development Office at 253.272.7012.
In April, 2001, Holy Rosary School received a check for $25,000 from the Medina Foundation in Seattle and a $4,000 from the Barbare Foundation. These generous gifts provided much-needed funding for classroom computers and our 15-station computer lab which is an integral part of our library media center. Students, staff and faculty of Holy Rosary School extend a huge thank you to the Medina Foundation for their generous support.
