In the context of faith, stewardship poses a question – what are my responsibilities in the gifts that I have? Where owners of possessions have rights, the words of 'steward' and 'gift' inherently speak to the reality that all we have has been graciously given to us by someone not us.
A gift is chosen specifically for a purpose, to serve a cause or an individual. The giver discerns the wants and needs of the recipient, adjusting what will be given accordingly. There is a great delight in being chosen to receive a gift – something we are blessed with daily!
Next week we begin our parish yearly stewardship campaign. Unlike the Annual Catholic Appeal, this campaign is specifically for our parish community. Using the pledges made by you, we build our budget and our plans for the future.
I ask you to begin consideration and prayer of your own commitment to our parish. As you know, we have many needs – parish debt to pay off, larger office hours to maintain, new programs to support and facilities to repair and improve. How can you help? What is God calling you to offer financially? Where are you being invited to volunteer?
We are blessed with many gifts! May we be good stewards, using them to produced great fruits.
