Happy feast day! We celebrate this Sunday (unofficially) and Monday (officially )the feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. We have been abundantly blessed in our parish over the last 120 plus years. Through Merry's intercession, may we continue to enjoy many fruits of worship, work and fraternity!
The Rosary holds a special place in the tradition and life of the Church. From its development as a way of joining the daily prayers of the monks (who prayed 150 psalms - matching the original hundred and 150 Hail Marys) to the addition of the Luminous Mysteries, it has served as a way for Catholics to ask the intercession of Mary, reflect on the life of Christ and carry the intentions of our hearts to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
When I was fairly young, my parents decided that we would pray the rosary each week. This was to coincide with our weekly movie, praying together after dinner and before whatever we were watching. Each of us would lead a decade as we knelt together in the living room, praying for family, friends and the things going on in our lives.
As we celebrate the gift of our parish, may we not fail to also receive the gift of the rosary! Perhaps you might start a tradition in your home - how might the rosary bring you closer to those you love, and closer to the Lord?
