Happy Pentecost Sunday!
Today marks the final day of Easter, and our movement from rejoicing at the tomb to proclaiming the Gospel to all nations.
As we conclude the Easter season, I am reminded of the Mount of the Ascension - when Elijah and Moses appeared to Jesus. Peter exclaimed his eagerness to dwell and reside in adoration and praise. His suggestion, though honoring God, was not part of God's plan.
We too are faced with a moment like Peter's, having experienced the glory of the resurrection. We are eager to stay in the moment, praising God and adoring Christ resurrected. But this is not his plan - as we already know from His Ascension! He now desires that we go out to proclaim his glory, and his love.
Part of our joy in this commission is that we do not go out alone. Christ has sent us His Holy Spirit, and through the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation, we receive that anointing that both joins us to Christ's body and gives us authority to preach His Gospel! And throughout it all, we find that far from solitude, we are accompanied by the Holy Spirit and supported by each other! May we enthusiastically go forth to share this joy to all!
